The Mobile Learning Kit (MiLK) goes global

In todays news, a press release stated that Secret Sauce IP Ventures wants to “officially” commercialize the MiLk project which originated in Australia. MiLK -which stands for Mobile Learning Kit- is the result of several international tests in Australian, British and American schools and has been developed by the Australasian CRC for Interaction Design (ACID).

Secret Sauce stated that the software will be turned into a commercial mobile learning product by a “suitable educational software company”. I was not able to test the software, but it is described as a sophisticated SMS-based program. No information on its compatibility with SCORM or other LMSs.

Australian high school kids use iPod for m-learning

The Sydney Morning Herald published an interesting article about a class of High School students in Australia. These students were given iPod Touches and iPhones by Apple to use for their school work. According to Louise Duncan, the responsible teacher, there are several advantages to mobile learning via such a mobile device (in comparison to Laptops which are also mobile, but much more expensive for instance).

The e-learning software company Studywiz is providing Shepparton High School with the needed mobile learning environment.
